Water Yoga – Movements to rejuvenate

Yoga is an ancient Indian science promoting energy and relaxation for human body whereas water helps to keep the body cool and refreshing. Together, yoga and water gives exercise a new dimension.


What is water yoga?

A range of yoga exercises when practiced in a pool of water, it is known as water yoga. It is an an excellent way to keep one’s body, mind and emotions relaxed. The soothing aquatic environment offers self-care, that many of us deserve while fulfilling the daily requirements of life.


Is water yoga suitable for me?

The good news is that it is suitable for all: young or old, male or female, fit or unfit, healthy or weak, swimmers or non-swimmers. Every one can enjoy water yoga.


Water yoga poses

Wall Cobra

  • Stand in the pool, where water is chest deep and approximately one foot away from the pool-wall.
  • Now, lean forward until the navel touches the edge of the pool.
  • The back forms an arch shape.
  • Remain in this pose for ten seconds and then release.

Chair Pose

  • Stand in the pool, where the water level is up to the waist.
  • Stand in such a position that your feet are apart and in a level with the shoulder.
  • Place your hands near the chest in prayer position.
  • Now, slowly bend the knees and lower the upper portion of the body in such a way that the thighs are parallel to the pool bottom.
  • Now raise your hand over the head.
  • Hold this position for about 10 seconds and concentrate on your breathing process.

Sleeping Pose

  • Yoga exercises always ends with lying down on the back (i.e. shawasan position) and concentrating on breathing process. Same applies in water yoga.
  • Here, one floats on the back, in the water relaxing each and every part of the body.
  • One can place a floating tube around one’s neck and the other tube around the knees.
  • Close your eyes float and relax.

  • Water yoga relaxes the body. Hence reduces the physical stress.
  • Lowers the blood pressure.
  • Improves digestion.
  • Boosts immune system.
  • It reduces joint and muscle pains.
  • Decreases conditions that boosts anxiety, depression and fatigue.

  • Improves blood circulation.
