Chlorination of Water

Fresh water does not necessarily mean it is safe. On the contrary, regardless of whether it has minerals or other things, a filter should be used to retain all the content that may be found in fresh water (which also retains some protozoa, worms and other things). Even the viruses and bacteria could also affect our water quality and be the causes of water borne diseases.

The issue of having virus and bacteria in our water is much more insidious than what we think, because they are perfectly invisible, sometimes it is even difficult to detect during testing. The chlorine disinfects the water using liquid chlorine that destroys all the living organisms.

A chlorination system has to be a highly accurate device. It should be automatic and must be carefully maintained. Its stock of liquid chlorine should always be maintained at a particular level. A metering pump could be used for this purpose. A “metering pump” is a very special device because it is extremely resistant to destructive chlorine. This pump is also equipped with a control system that measures the amount of water flowing in a pipe and for all defined volume, injecting a small dose of chlorine. Water and chlorine are mixed in a tank before the water supply becomes drinkable (about 1/2 hour after mixing, the water becomes drinkable).

Generally, the metering pump is connected to a power grid. It is also necessary that the grid is reliable.

Sets of perfectly reliable chlorination, produced by new energy companies, are equipped with metering pumps (ALLDOS, PROMINENT) 12 Volts, they are battery operated, and some of the units are being powered by solar modules. The batteries must be replaced for safety reasons every three years (cost of batteries in Europe is less than 100 Euros).
