How Much Water Should Children Drink Every Day?

We all know the importance of water for our survival but why is it particularly important for our children? Because, every one calories out of five consumed by our children is from liquids. Also, 70% of our body is composed of liquid therefore it is very important to refill our system with liquid, preferably water, every now and then. Children could achieve this task through taking fat milk, natural juices and as well as water. This would not only help them to replenish their system but also give them the necessary nutrients that are required for their growth.

Should we spend all our day drinking water just because it helps to keep our system healthy? As the saying goes, too much of anything is good for nothing, so if we take the recommended amounts recommended by our physicians it should be enough. For children, the standard recommended amount is at least six to eight glasses every day. It should be drunk at regular intervals throughout the day.

At schools, they should at least drink three to four glasses of water because they tend to lose more water there due to the physical activities that they go through and also they spend half of their waking hours there at schools. If the child is going through extra physical activities such as exercising or games, then he/she should intake more water than the usual amount in order to compensate the extra amount of fluid he/she looses.

The Institute of Medicine of the National Academics from Washington states that teenage boys over fourteen years of age require more water than others. The minimum required amount is around 2.6 liters for teenage boys.

Since 80% of our brain is made up of water, dehydration negatively affects a childas mental health. Therefore, it is always advisable to take necessary precautions to avoid it.
