is a type of waterborne disease which causes vomiting and severe diarrhea. Also, this virus is a main reason for gastrointestinal diseases in crowded and closed environments, like cruise ships, nursing homes and hospitals. Most frequently, people suffering form norovirus infection develop abdominal pain and diarrhea. They also begin to vomit in 24-48 hours of exposure to the infection.   • Non-bacterial gastroenteritis – Gastroenteritis is the term which describes an inflammation of the intestines and stomach
  • Acute gastroenteritis
  • Viral gastroenteritis – The most common term for infection caused by norovirus
  • Stomach flu – This disease is not at all related to influenza (respiratory disease due to influenza virus)

Spread Of Norovirus Infection

Noroviruses are known to cause 600,000 to one million infections in people from UK every year. This infection primarily affects people from all age groups and outbreaks are very common, especially in crowded areas like schools, nursing homes and hospitals. This is due to the fact that the norovirus spreads from person to another very easily. Also, it survives for a longer period in contaminated areas.

It is quite possible to become infected again after suffering from an norovirus infection once. This is due to the fact that the immunity against the virus lasts only for a very short time.
