The soil quality is reduced and the nutritive value also lowers down. Acid rain also affects the useful microorganisms in the soil which convert the decayed organic matter in the soil into essential nutrients.

Acid rain also destroys the waxy layer of the plant leaves which makes the plants more prone to diseases. Also, it affects the process of germination in plants. It also lowers the productivity of the crops. Soil erosion occurs due to the acidity of the rain as the soil substrates needed in the plant growth are dissolved.
