Recommended Water Intake

One of the most frequently advice given to us is to drink adequate amounts of water each day because it is important for proper functioning of our body. The human body consists of about 55%-78% of water which depends on the body size. A thumb rule is that

2/3 of our body consists of water

and it is the essential component. Every living cell in our body requires water to carry out the various metabolic activities. Hence, it is impertinent to drink enough water. Read on to know more about recommended water intake in the body.

Are you aware that your organs and tissues are mostly made up of water? Here is the percentage given for every body component:

  • Blood consists of 83% water
  • Bone consists of 22% water
  • Brain consists of 90% water
  • Muscle consists of 75% water

Recommended Water Intake

To stay healthy and fit, there is a suitable recommendation for daily water intake, which depends on different aspects. This aspects include the area where you live (climatic conditions), daily physical activity and general health condition.

If you stay in a hotter climate, you tend to sweat more and you need to drink more amounts of water to compensate the loss of water. In the similar manner, you need to drink more amount of water if you do physical exercise which makes you sweat.

There is no specific measurement on how much water you should drink daily. For the normal functioning of our body, drinking nearly 2 liters of water along with other fluids is the recommended amount of water. The recommended water intake for a child is number of ounces equivalent to 2/3rds of his/her body weight.
