which depends on the body size. A thumb rule is that

2/3 of our body consists of water

and it is the essential component. Every living cell in our body requires water to carry out the various metabolic activities. Hence, it is impertinent to drink enough water. Read on to know more about the importance of water in the body.

  • Blood consists of 83% water
  • Bone consists of 22% water
  • Brain consists of 90% water
  • Muscle consists of 75% water

Importance of Water in the Body

Most of the water and other body fluids is lost each day due to urination and perspiration. Hence, this water loss should be compensated for a proper body function. You can become dehydrated if you don’t drink adequate amount of water.

This may lead to a life-threatening situation. It may also lead to several other diseases such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and constipation. Also, it may lead to joint pain.

Water aids in breaking down food particles and their movement in the colon. Also, water helps in digesting fibres and water soluble vitamins.

Eliminating Toxins

Water also aids in eliminating toxins from the human body. Kidneys are the main organs which help in removing toic wastes from the body. Inadequate water can lead to kidney diseases and kidney stone.

Aids in Weight Loss

Water increases the metabolism rate and burns off the excess calories in our body. Also, it functions as a natural appetite suppressant.
